Your First Year as a Client
Here's a general idea of how we'll work together during your first year
1. Welcome Meeting
You’ve officially signed on as a client, and we couldn’t be more excited! The first thing we’ll do is send you an email with all of the information you’ll need to get started, along with a link for you to schedule a “Welcome Meeting” video chat.
During this video chat, we’ll introduce you to the business and give you a sense for what the rest of the planning process will look like. We’ll also set up a screenshare session so that we can walk you through the various systems that we’ll use to work with you:
- Financial planning software and client portal
- Task manager we use to sync up and stay on track
- Secure file sharing system
- Schwab investment account platform
We’ll have a little bit of homework for you to complete after this meeting which will provide us with most of the information we need to get a start on designing your plan.
2. Development Call(s)
At this point we’ve received most of the numbers behind your finances and have started building out your plan. So our focus here is going to be more on the ‘personal’ side of the planning process. During this meeting we will:
- Learn about your main goals and concerns
- Review any specific questions or urgent issues
- Go through your balance sheet and your budget together
- Map out any expected “forks in the road” – scenarios where you have a decision to make so that we can analyze all potential options
- Gather any outstanding information that we didn’t already receive
We frequently schedule follow-up calls to review specific issues or to dig a little deeper into particular aspects of your life that we think require more thought.
3. Plan Review
This is where we meet to review the final plan together; it will act as your comprehensive roadmap to financial independence. The review includes a long-term forecast of your finances, a comparison of any “fork in the road” scenarios, a clear investment strategy and asset allocation, and a list of recommendations for you covering all aspects of your finances.
We’ll also spend time educating you on the implementation of all recommendations as well as how to track your progress against your goals. You’ll also, as always, have the opportunity to ask questions on any aspect of the plan (and we encourage you to do so!)
